Well before I will introduce to you this magic place, allow me to quickly explain what is THIS Madame. Imagine 2 crispy slices of fresh, rye bread, the smell of the bread floating around is spurring your hunger, there is a delicate, rosted turkey & a little bit of aromatic Gruyere cheese… All baked in bechamel sauce until it is brittle on outside and soft & juicy inside. Must be topped with a sunny side up egg… Oops, sorry, have I just I made you drool?
Charlotte is a lovely boulangerie located in the heart of Cracow’s Old Town. How did I came across it? Well, it was on my friend’s “to eat list”. We came there around 10 am on Sunday morning – it was literally packed! Full. Waitresses were running like chickens without head – I actually felt sorry for them… Total mess…
There was a couple leaving a table outside so my friend took the place. Although taking order, I have to admit was pretty promt, the atmosphere of buzlling beehive was a bit disturbing. It did not allow to soak in to the atmosphere of a peaceful french bistro in the narrow streets of Paris. But let`s be realistic – Sunday morning, downtown a touristy city – only avarage spots have free seats.
Oh, you don’t know what we’ve ordered! Yes, latte and lemonade. Personally, I prefer the restaurants to offer the option of sweetened and non-sweetened home-made lemonades (not an extra job, you can always add sugar to the sour one) , but it is just a suggestion. My latte was fine and the lemonade was just ok. We waited about 10 minutes for the beverages and 30 for our… mouth watering, delectable, delicious… divine Croque Madame! Hashtag – foodgasm. I can`t write more about it now as I am drooling on the keyboard thinking about it, so go back to the first paragraph as it describes it well! Luscious!
Charlotte is very much recommended bistro for light meals, great for friend gatherings and a chillout with a newspaper and a coffee… Just not in peak time! I will definitely visit it again in Cracow and will try in Warsaw too. A bakery with authentic french pastry. Last but not least – thumbs up for the waitresses who were exhausted yet eager to assist literally every guest! Good job girls, I hope the manager praise you enough every day!
